Intern Wildlife Ecology, Conference Organisation

Noortje Looijenga, a 22-year-old bachelor student in ecology, has a deep-rooted passion for biodiversity and wildlife. Her journey began with a fascination for insects, leading to her discovery of a new moth species (Cyme laeta Looijenga) during her MBO internship at Naturalis Biodiversity Center. This milestone emphasized her commitment to conservation and scientific research.

Currently, Noortje focuses on rewilding and animal behavior, particularly the ecology of wildlife in the Netherlands. Her transition from entomology to broader ecological interests reflects her growing dedication to understanding and restoring natural systems. This passion aligns with her upcoming internship project on the golden jackal with the Rewilding Academy, where she aims to contribute to research and conservation efforts.

Noortje’s journey showcases her curiosity and commitment to making a tangible impact on biodiversity conservation, from moths in New Guinea to wildlife in Europe.
