Description

This course examines the biological and physical processes that lead to the production of GHG emissions and removals from land use-related activities. It provides learners with guidance in calculating emissions and removals from these activities by helping to identify data needs and providing methodological instructions in line with the Tier 1 method of the 2006 IPCC Guidelines and its 2013 Wetlands supplement.

The course has a series of exercises that simulate the work of a GHG inventory compiler to allow users to gradually apply the knowledge acquired. In light of the Enhanced Transparency Framework requirements, compilers have to use the 2006 IPCC Guidelines. The course examines methodological improvements and requirements among the different versions of the IPCC Guidelines and aims at fostering a smooth transition.

What you’ll learn

  • The main biological and physical processes that generate GHG emissions and removals in land use-related activities
  • Estimating GHG emissions and removals from the land use sector using a step by step process and by applying your knowledge through exercises
  • Methodological improvements among subsequent versions of the IPCC Guidelines.

Requirements

None.
