Honouring the pioneers of nature’s recovery

The Global Rewilding Awards recognise exceptional individuals and organisations driving ecological renewal and resilience around the world. These awards celebrate the vision and commitment of those restoring landscapes, bringing back species, and inspiring people to reconnect with the living Earth.

Whether through groundbreaking ecological research, the recovery of degraded habitats, or innovative approaches to community-led rewilding, each awardee demonstrates what’s possible when we work with nature rather than against it.

2025 Rewilding Award Laureates

Frans Vera has transformed our understanding of natural ecosystems in Europe, illustrating the crucial role of large herbivores in maintaining dynamic, biodiverse landscapes.

Sir Humphry Wakefield has long championed the restoration of wild places. As Director of the Tree of Life Foundation since 1976 and Patron of the Wilderness Foundation since 1999, he has supported visionary rewilding efforts worldwide for nearly five decades.

Lucy Rees is internationally recognised for her pioneering research on wild horse behaviour and her work restoring natural habitats through the reintroduction of Pottoka horses.

Together, they embody the spirit of rewilding — vision, persistence, and a deep belief in the power of nature to recover. Their achievements continue to inspire a global movement dedicated to a wilder, more resilient planet.

The 2025 Rewilding Awards Ceremony took place in Wolfheze, the Netherlands, on 20 November 2025, bringing together rewilding practitioners, scientists, and visionaries from across the world to celebrate nature’s comeback.
