Sampriti Barman

Sampriti Barman is an undergraduate student at Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi, pursuing a degree in History with a specialization in Environmental Studies. She is the co-founder and Managing Editor of The Hargila Desk, a youth-led magazine dedicated to community-based conservation initiatives.
A passionate advocate for the environment, Sampriti actively participates in sustainability efforts within her college and beyond. She serves as a Student Ambassador for the Nature Positive University Program, a collaboration between UNEP, the University of Oxford, and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. She is also a member of her college’s environmental society and volunteers with the Research Team at There Is No Earth. As a Fellow of the Climate Ready Program and a member of YOUNGO, the youth constituency of the UNFCCC, Sampriti brings her voice to global environmental discourse.
Her academic and practical interests center around Environmental History, Ethno-ornithology, and Ecofeminism. Her journey in conservation began in childhood, supporting community-based efforts to protect the endangered Greater Adjutant Stork. She participated in rescue missions, community meetings, and nest monitoring activities. At just 14 years old, Sampriti founded the Eco Club at Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Barsojai, where she led students and community members in citizen science initiatives, conservation campaigns, bird nest installations, tree plantations, birdwatching activities, and clean-up drives.
