Walter Schrader, MD GP
Walter Schrader is a general practitioner, disaster relief manager, and lifelong activist for environmental and animal rights. During his secondary school education, he conducted research on vitamin B12 in plant-based foods, successfully initiated legal action against illegal waste dumping in a nature reserve, and led a youth delegation on a symbolic walk from Leiden to Assisi to advocate for the legal protection of migratory birds and animal welfare. During and after his study medicine, he has been involved in healthcare innovation for development projects for over 40 years. As a disaster relief physician, he received several international awards for humanitarian aid, organized ophthalmology camps, and taught healthcare organization in developing countries for a decade. He was awarded a Royal Decoration for his humanitarian work.
Currently, Walter is engaged in research on pharmaceutical waste and the environmental impact of healthcare, focusing on the effects of toxic mixtures of PFAS, pharmaceutical residues, insecticides, and pesticides on surface water and drinking water quality.
